Grand County Search and Rescue needs a new base near Kremmling
Grand County Search and Rescue is in need of a new base in the Kremmling area.
The agency previously operated out of 1003 Eagle Ave. in Kremmling. The county building at that location is shared with the Grand County coroner and Grand County EMS, and it formerly served as a substation for the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Going forward, the county will use the former search and rescue space for vehicle maintenance.
“Without a base in Kremmling, our response time to west-end missions will be drastically increased,” search and rescue stated in a Facebook post. “About 15% of our field missions are in west Grand.”
Search and rescue stated that it has been keeping a fully equipped rescue truck in Kremmling as well as a trailer that has ATVs or snowmobiles, depending on the season. When search and rescue volunteers respond to an emergency, they have access to these vehicles. The agency also has several volunteers who live in Kremmling.
Grand County Search and Rescue is looking for a new space. Here is what the nonprofit needs:
- 60-by-90 square feet minimum
- In or close to Kremmling
- Heated
- Two garage doors (drive-through capability preferred)
Contact pio@grandcountysar.com with any information on a possible new space.
“With the river access on Trough Road and snowmobiling in Rabbit Ears in addition to hunting in the area, we are seeing more missions in the Kremmling area every year,” search and rescue spokesperson Hannah Ledsome said.
The rescue agency is currently renting a space in Kremmling until April, as it searches for a new western base.
Search and rescue and the sheriff’s office are “working collaboratively on long-term solutions” for a permanent space, Grand County spokesperson Christine Travis said.
