An American flag that had been flown at the U.S. Capitol building was recently donated to Fraser Valley Elementary School by students Janek, Natalya and Stefan Poh.

Along with the flag, the students donated a certificate of authenticity stating it had been flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C., at the request of U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse.

Samantha Poh, mother of the students, explained that she took her children to Washington a couple of weeks ago and stopped by Neguse’s office. The family then purchased the flag from the congressman’s website soon after visiting.

The students presented the gift to Principal James Chamberlin, who Poh said reacted with surprise and gratitude.

The school made a special announcement for the flag-raising ceremony during its morning announcements Dec. 5, and Janek and other fifth-grade helpers conducted a ceremony before raising the school’s new flag.
