Ski season wraps up soon in Grand County. Here’s how to celebrate

Spring skiing is a favorite pastime to enjoy the warmer weather, and Grand County’s ski resorts and Nordic centers have events planned to close out the season. The days are getting longer, but it won’t be long before the resorts are closed, so wax your skis or snowboard one last time and enjoy the snow.

Winter Park Resort

The Winter Park side of the resort, including the gondola, will close for the season April 27. The resort’s Spring Bash & Splash offers a lineup of events until closing. Every weekend from April 5-27, guests can enjoy live music, beer fests, themed parties, races and a pond skim.

The Mary Jane side of the resort will stay open as long as possible, with apres ski parties every Saturday.

Granby Ranch

Granby Ranch, which had its earliest opening in history this season, will close its lifts March 30.

To wrap up the downhill season, Granby Ranch will host Skim-or-Swim on March 29, when skiers and snowboarders will attempt to glide across a pool of water outside the base lodge.

Granby Ranch also offers miles of Nordic trails, which will close April 6. New for the 2024-25 season, guests can Nordic ski on groomed trails on the resort property as well as the golf course. In prior years, Nordic was available only on the golf course.

YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch

The Nordic center at YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch has held a variety of races and events this season. The center will close April 6.

Prior to closing, the Nordic center hosted the United Kingdom’s Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team. Members of the military adaptive team spent a week at YMCA, culminating with a race March 24. The YMCA also invited gear testers for Cross Country Skier magazine. Nordic experts and local enthusiasts tested skis, boots and poles from March 25-26.

Grand Lake Nordic Center

The Grand Lake Nordic Center offers ski and snowshoe rentals, lessons, a retail shop and clubhouse. It will close March 31 and stop grooming services. However, skiers can continue to use the trails as long as there is snow on the ground.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa

In December 2024, USA Today named Devil’s Thumb Ranch the best Nordic ski area across the country. The resort’s Nordic center will close April 12, but the resort operates year-round.

It has nearly 120 kilometers of groomed trails, offering lessons and rentals for lodging and non-lodging guests.

On April 5, bring your pooch to the resort’s skijoring clinic. Dogs and their owners can work together skijoring on trails with instruction from staff members. Skijoring harnesses, ski rentals and a day pass will be provided for $60. For more information, visit DevilstTumbRanch.com.
